Sixth Grade Curriculum Overview

  • We utilize Enduring Faith curriculum. Students will explore…

    We also utilize Luther’s Small Catechism throughout the year, exploring his explanations of the Ten Commandments, the Sacraments, the Lord’s Prayer, and the Apostle’s Creed.

    Students will be given the opporuntity to memorize various bible verses. Memory quizzes will be given every Friday.

  • Students will explore various literary elements such as:

    • Crisis, conflict, climax, and resolution

    • Characterization and character development

    • Setting

    • Symbolism

    Students will study these elements within a variety of genres including fictional novels & short stories, nonfictional biographies and autobiographies, essays, poetry, and plays. Students will also study film and its connections and derivations to and from literature.

  • We utilize Sadlier for our mathematics curriculum. Students will study and learn these concepts throughout the year:

    • Addition, subtraction, multiplication & division operations and expressions

    • Numerical & algebraic expressions

    • One variable equations & inequalities

    • Factors & multiples

    • Fractions & decimals, multiplying and dividing fractions

    • Rational numbers and coordinate planes

    • Ratios

    • Percents

    • Measurements

    • Two-variable relationships

    • Geometry - surface area & volume

    • Data Displays

  • We utilize Glencoe curriculum. Our students will focus on earth science (Life iScience) and life science (Earth and Space iScience) throughout the school year.

    Students will explore and expand their knowledge on:

    • Earth’s systems and how they function both independently & together

    • The solar system and outer space

    • The basic unit of life - the cell and its various components

    • Cell anatomy & physiology

    • Kingdoms of life on earth

    • Organism reproduction

    • Human anatomy and physiology

  • We utilize Prentice Hall Writing and Grammar: Communication in Action curriculum. Students will build upon their knowledge learned in elementary school. The topics covered are:

    • Parts of speech

    • Spelling

    • Capitalization

    • Punctuation

    Students will showcase their knowledge and understanding through various writing exercises that include:

    • Narrative

    • Persuasive

    • Descriptive

    • Expository

    • Compare & Contrast

  • We utilize McGraw Hill for our world history curriculum. Students will analyze various ancient civilizations such as:

    • Mesopotamia

    • Egypt

    • Israel

    • Greece

    • Rome

    We will also explore how various wars and cultural movements have made an impact on our current world such as:

    • World War I & World War II

    • The Enlightenment

    Students will also learn how to properly analyze and critique source material without bias.

Seventh Grade Curriculum Overview

  • We utilize Enduring Faith curriculum. Students will explore:

    • The meaning of being a disciple of Christ

    • Christian living through devotion and service

    We utilize Luther’s Small Catechism throughout the year, preparing students for the confirmation of faith.

    Students will be introduced to the basics of apologetics and defending their faith. Topics covered include:

    • Evidence for the existence of Jesus

    • Truth of God’s creation and intelligent design

    • Biblical validity and reliability as a source

  • We utilize Prentice Hall for our curriculum. Students will explore and solidify their knowledge in sentence structure:

    • Nouns

    • Verbs

    • Adjectives

    • Prepositions

    Students will continue to exercise their writing abilities with various writing projects throughout the year.

  • Students will explore various literary elements such as:

    • Setting

    • Symbolism
