All Day Kindergarten
St. Paul School is pleased to offer a Full Day Kindergarten program that is both challenging and exciting! Here are the various areas that engage students in our program.
Religion
Our Christian faith is taught daily through religion curriculum, Bible stories, songs, games and crafts. During the day, we strive to express with one another the love and forgiveness that Jesus has shown us.
Literacy
The Common Core aligned Guided Reading and Writers Workshop teach concepts to the students. The program includes:
- Daily phonemic and phonological awareness
- Daily Five—Listening, writing, word work, reading to others, and reading to self during Literacy Block
- Pre-decodable readers (1st semester) and decodable readers (2nd semester) that present sight words with additional decodable CVC
(consonant-vowel-consonant) words to help the child with beginning reading
- Writers Workshop incorporates all of the ELA standards while introducing the students to the love of writing
Handwriting
D’Nealian style handwriting is taught. Handwriting is practiced in centers, journals, and daily work.
Mathematics
A unit based curriculum that adheres to the Illinois Common Core standards for kindergarten. It is blended with targeted units from the Every Day Math curriculum to provide many opportunities for optimal learning.
Enrichment
Science, Social Studies, Music and Art are integrated into weekly activities.
Discovery Time
Children choose centers according to their interests such as: blocks, dramatic play, art, computer, manipulatives, library, and learning centers (reading, math, science.).
STEM Integration
Science, technology, engineering, and math concepts are introduced and explored through hands-on and student driven activities. Smart-Boards, touch-screen computers in the Lab, and 1-to-1 Chromebooks enhance the students’ learning.
Indoor and Outdoor Play
Our facility houses a full size gymnasium and an outdoor playground for recreation during each school day.
